Project: Reconstruction of golf green at Bellshill Golf Course.
A complete new design:
The 11th hole at Bellshill Golf Course is given a complete new design where the old root zone was removed and a new root zone installed along with an efficient new drainage system. This will be finished off with the
replacement of the existing turf lifted from the surrounding green.
The old green:
The green before we started. This suffered greatly from waterlogging and was the main reason for the new design. The first thing to be done is to gently strip off the turf as this will be re-used.
Excavation of the root zone begins.
A new shape:
Next, we shape the new surround to the green and all bankings around the green have been carefully planned to suit the size, shape and position of the green. Next, we begin to lay the the existing turf and new bankings.
A new drainage system is installed and connected to the existing drainage network.
Infilling and Root Zoning:
A new root zone is placed on top of binding layer of grit. This is done in 3 stages of 4 inch infill at a time and compacted in each layer.
Views across the new bunkers and on to the green.
The Finished Job:
Views of the new green. Notice the surrounding bankings and bunker to the left.
View from the back of the green at the foot of a new banking...this makes for a tricky shot. Get your 9 iron out!
A job well done:
Contractor and groundskeeper shake hands. George and Charlie agree, a job well done.
